Medicare Changes for 2026

Updated: Sep 3, 2025

If you’ve been enjoying the same Medicare plan for years without checking the fine print, you might want to Brace for Impact.

Medigap Premiums –

Medigap (Medicare Supplement) premiums are set to increase by an average of 18% next year. That’s a big jump, especially for those on a fixed income. And while Medigap can cover many out-of-pocket medical expenses covered under Original Medicare, it does not cover extras like:

·         Dental care  /   Vision exams or glasses  /  Hearing aids

On top of that, the standalone prescription drug plans (Part D) — which Medigap enrollees need — will also see premium increases in 2026.

Original Medicare – Prior Authorizations Coming Soon

Even Original Medicare, once known for fewer restrictions, will soon require prior authorizations for certain services. This change means more hoops to jump through before getting care.

Medicare Advantage – A Smarter Navigation System

This is where a Medicare Broker becomes your personal “mission control.”  We can:

  • Find Medicare Advantage plans that have most or all of your doctors in-network.

  • Find PPO plans that offer flexibility while traveling in the U.S. — including reciprocity in other states when you need care.

  • Benefit from extras like dental, vision, and hearing that Medigap doesn’t include.

  • Review your plan every year to make sure it still fits your needs and budget.

🛰 Why It Matters Now

With costs rising and plan rules changing, this is the year to double-check your coverage — before your healthcare budget is sent into orbit. Working with a Medicare broker ensures you have expert guidance and unbiased comparisons so you can avoid surprises.
