It’s that time of year again! The Medicare Annual Election Period is here and will continue until the December 7th deadline. This is the time when you check your Medicare Plan and its plan changes to see if it still takes care of your medical needs. This is also the time when you will be bombarded with false and misleading information.

Misleading internet ads
Do not give your personal information to anyone you don’t know, especially over the phone. In the past, phone solicitors have tricked Medicare Beneficiaries into plan changes without realizing. Please be careful!
During AEP you can:
Stay with your current Medicare Advantage or Part D plan if it still meets your needs.
Or switch to a plan that better fits your situation.
In New York, Medicare beneficiaries also have the option to move from a Medicare Advantage Plan back to Original Medicare plus a stand-alone Part D prescription drug plan without medical underwriting or pre-existing condition concerns, as long as you’ve had continuous coverage with a plan.
Or with the potential increases in Medicare Supplement premium costs, you may also switch from a Supplement with a stand-alone drug plan to a Medicare Advantage Plan.
Important Note: There are a lot of plan changes this year. Your Annual Notice of Change (ANOC) has important updates. Some plans change benefits, raise premiums, or may even end altogether at the close of this year. For 2027 a few carriers announced that they are terminating plans in our area, including several PPO plans, and other plans are increasing the plan monthly premium cost. Almost 3 million older Americans (about 1 in 10 policyholders) are facing forced disenrollment and losing their Medicare Advantage coverage at the end of the year due to plan terminations and market pullbacks. These Medicare members will lose their coverage if they do not choose a new plan.
